Our recent migration from Branch to Sandbox framework in Oracle FDI has significantly improved the interface, especially with the graph view. However, certain usability challenges have emerged that could be addressed to streamline workflows and enhance user experience.

Suggested Areas for Improvement:

  1. Traceability of Applied Actions:
    • In the Branch framework, users can easily see the "Step Type" associated with each applied action.
    • In Sandbox, there is no direct way to view applied steps/actions. Users must manually inspect each "Name" in the graphic view, right-click every dimension, and navigate to “Manage Extension” to determine if actions exist.
    • Proposed Enhancement: Introduce a clear indicator that shows applied actions directly within the interface, reducing the need for multiple clicks.
  2. Action Indicator via Colour Coding or Flags:
    • Currently, there is no visual cue identifying which dimensions have actions applied.
    • Proposed Enhancement: Implement a colour-coded system or flagging mechanism to quickly identify dimensions with actions, improving efficiency and reducing manual checks.
  3. Search Box for "Add" Actions:
    • When adding attributes, users need to scroll extensively to locate relevant items.
    • Proposed Enhancement: Add a search box within the "Add" actions panel to speed up attribute selection.
  4. Timestamp for Changes:
    • There is no built-in tracking mechanism for when modifications were made.
    • Proposed Enhancement: Introduce timestamps for changes, allowing users to trace modifications over time.

Thank you

  • Thank you for your SME feedback and suggestions.
1 & 2, we plan to change the "Show Custom Joins Only" to "Show Customizations Only". This would allow you to see all tables that have customizations applied. I don't think colors would be needed once you have the ability to filter, but could possibly consider colors down the road.
3, we plan to add a filter/search to add physical column (commonly performed on Fact tables). Is this what you are referring to as add attributes?
4, we don't have short-term plans for this but we can enter an ER for you.
    Thanks Jay
