Warning Message Before Moving Folders In BI Catalog

Description

If the user has the correct permission, BI folder catalogs can mistakenly be moved from one folder to the other.  This can be disruptive because users may not be able to find reports and reports/dashboards may be broken if the path to the data models/analysis is in a new location.

Even with permission restriction, there is the possibility of mistakenly doing this.

If there was a warning prior to a folder moving locations (similar to the warning message that appears before objects are deleted), this would help ensure folders weren't mistakenly moved.

Use Case and Business Need

User has custom reports that are run on a regular basis.

Folder was mistakenly moved to a different location.  None of the reports can be run until folder is found and moved back to correct location.

Sometimes folders get dragged without us being noticed, and this gets tracked only after incidents reported - where users are not being able to find reports , or reports being failed.

Secondly, this can happen by users/developers/Service Desk as well, and going unnoticed or communicated

By whatever means if the folder gets shifted, besides the failure, it is a huge effort to restore the correct roles and permissions for the team. if we do not have the latest backup of Prod, its highly inappropriate to copy permissions from lower environments, which might differ or be inexact.

We also faced similar issue folders moved into other folders due to this Payments could not make. This is very userful if we get alert before moving into other folder. We need to spend lot of time on assigning permissions to Data models, Reports, folders and sub folders.

Solution provided to this is really helpful because in case by mistake if folders are moved it need permission changes to all objects in that folder.

Recently we had audit finding where by  folders moved to other folder . When we re-arrange the folders we are getting sysdate as last modification date though there are no changes to the report. It will be very helpful if we get any popup message while moving folder to other folder.

It is very easy to drag and drop a folder without any warning or realizing causing a lot of impact on the user end or even integration if the objects in that folder are associated to integration or to send vendor files. It seems a small request but the impact is huge. Thanks for the consideration.

At least the application should ask Yes or No before copying the content.

hi, Are there any update for this? We are facing a similar problem where users are accidentally being moved and we want to prevent this from occurring. Thanks!
